Surjo Chowdhury Oct 14 How dangerous is the route from Khangsar to tilicho base camp, especially the landslide area ? And do we return back using the same route , I mean do we then climb up the landslide area or is there any other route to continue with the circuit trek ???? A detailed map would really help !!! Thanks in advance !!! Replies Jim Oct 17 You will see signs on the trail advising you pass quickly on the area affected by rockfall, it is recommended that you pass early in the morning before the ground has warmed up and any rocks become loose and fall down. Best thing to do is to ask for local advice on this (the mountain information post in Manang is probably the best place to ask). If you’re doing the trip to Tilicho then continuing with the circuit the best way to go would be from Manang to Shree Kharka, stay overnight in one of the lodges there. Next morning follow the trail passing that rockfall area and get a room in one the lodges at Tilicho base-camp, leave most of your gear there and go with a light bag up to the lake and bag to base-camp. Leave early again and re-trace your steps to Shree Kharka, then look out for the ‘seasonal trail’ to Upper Khangsar, it climbs up to a viewpoint then descends to cross the river at Karche where you get get food and drink. The trail soon re-joins the main trail up from Manang and you can stay in either Yak Kharka or Churi Ledar. I heard reports recently of a new trail opening from Jomsom to Tilicho, as an alternative to crossing the Thorung La, but have no experience of this route.
