Three Passes Trek January 2019
Hi!
I’m Sofie (25 y/o) and planning to do the Three Passes Trek with additional day walks (and maybe the walk in from Jiri) in January, and I’m looking for people to hike with. I’m not looking to hire a guide as I prefer to do the planning myself and to not be locked to a fixed schedule. I plan to stay in Nepal for about a month, from maybe 26th of December to end of January.
I’m fit and have experience with higher altitude trekking; I walked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal mid winter 2 years back, and last April I walked in the Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru. Besides that I’ve hiked quite a bit in the Norwegian mountains.
I’ve looked at an itinerary (basically based on Lonely Planet forums) with a few day walks in addition to the three passes, but nothing’s written in stone!
Day 1 Bus Kathmandu-Jiri
Day 2 Jiri-Bhandar
Day 3 Bhandar-Sete
Day 4 Sete-Junbesi
Day 5 Junbesi-Nhuntala
Day 6 Nhuntala-Puiyan
Day 7 Puiyan-Namche Bazaar
Day 8 Day walk: Khumjung and Khunde
Day 9 Rest day
Day 10 Namche Bazaar-Orsho
Day 11 Orsho-Pheriche + day walk
Day 12 Day walk: up local peak
Day 13 Pheriche-Chukung
Day 14 Day walk: Chukung Hill
Day 15 Chukung – Khongma La Pass to Lobuche
Day 16 Day walk: Gorak Shep and Kala Pattar, back to Lobuche
Day 17 Cho La Pass to Tagnag
Day 18 Tagnag-Ngozuma glaicer to Gokyo, then day walk up Gokyo Ri
Day 19 Day walk
Day 20 Renjo La Pass to Thame
Day 21 Day walk: Thame Khola Valley, Tashi Labhtha Pass
Day 22 Thame-Namche Bazaar
Day 23 Namche Bazaar-Lukla
Day 24 Fly out Lukla-Kathmandu

I am Jason from Australia. I am doing the three passes as well at the same time. I am walking in from Jiri and have a itinerary from a friend who has done it.
I have done Annapurna in winter as well and prefer this time of year as less people and beautiful clear days. Happy to trek with another person

Hey Sofie, I am planning to do the three passes trek too. I will be doing it without a guide and on a shoestring. I have done Annapurna circuit, and am travelling in Himalayas for the next 8-10 months starting in Indian Himalayas. I have done 8-10 Himalayan treks before. Let me know.

I have been reading that It isn’t possible to do Everest 3 high Pass trekking during December and January because there will be lots of snow in the passes.
Hi Sofie! Same question as above- do you know if the trek will be open this time of year? Will be in Nepal and free after a volunteer program in late November. Would be happy to join you on this if the trek is indeed open late December.
