Three Passes Trek
Hi, I’m Steve! I’m travelling from Canada to Kathmandu, arriving in Kathmandu on April 16, and then flying to Lukla the morning of April 17 to start out on the first day’s trek to Phakding.
Looking for an individual or a few individuals to join me — I am an experienced hiker, and am very easy-going. I would hope to do this mostly independently, and stay in teahouses overnight.
Not sure how long it would take, but estimating 16-20 days.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Steve, I would be interested as I am in Nepal till apr 12th doing Annapurna base camp trek. Let me know how to reach you to understand your expectations from a fellow hiker.
Hi Steve! I would absolutely love to join you! I’m an American living in Singapore and I haven’t booked my flights yet but I was planning to fly in on the 16th. I’ve done a lot of hiking over the years in the Sierra Nevadas since I’m from California but am super excited to be trekking around Nepal.
Hello Steve
I’m interested in trekking the Three Passes Trek independently, Will you be including the side trek to Gokyo Lakes?
Hi Joe,
Nice to hear from you regarding the Three Passes trek. I’ve been looking at itineraries and, based on a 17-20 day itinerary, most of them have days 14 and 15 set aside as “rest days” where you can do the side trip to Gokyo Ri and/or up the valley past the Gokyo lakes, so I’m definitely hoping to include this part! Is this what you were thinking of doing as well?
Hi Steve
I’m definitely interested
have you got any links to those itineraries you mentioned?
Hi again Joe,
I’m looking at an itinerary something like this:
http://www.himalayanmagictreks.com/nepal/trekking-in-nepal/everest-trek/everest-3-high-passes-trek.html
However, for acclimatization purposes, it seems to make sense to probably go the other direction (heading from Namche to Tengboche and then returning through Thame on the way back) and take your time climbing upwards.
I’m looking at a LonelyPlanet book’s itinerary, which I quite like. This is the rough itinerary (rest days can be added/removed as needed, or filled with side hikes, and I’d probably try to compress the last few days a bit on the way down):
1: Lukla to Phakding
2: to Namche Bazaar
3. Rest day (side hikes?
4. Namche to Tengboche
5. Rest day
6. to Dingboche
7. to Chhukung
8. Rest day
9. to Lobuche (via Kongmala Pass)
10. to Gorak Shep and basecamp and back to Gorak Shep
11. to Lobuche
12. to Dzonglha
13. to Gokyo (via Chola Pass)
14. Rest day (Gokyo Lakes)
15. Rest day
16. to Lungden/Marulung
17. to Thame
18. to Namche
19. to Phakding
20. to Lukla
Thoughts?
Hello Steve
Your itinerary looks good to me, but how do you feel about including Kalapathar after EBC
Gorak Shep to EBC and back to Gorak Shep
Gorak Shep to Kalapathar and back to Lobuche
Absolutely. I omitted it, but day 11 should indeed include Gorak Shep to Kalapathar to Lobuche all on the same day. Seems like a bit of the hike not to be missed!
Hey all, I’m Kari from Canada (Winnipeg). Where are you in Canada, Steve?? I’ll be touching down in Kathmandu on the 16th, might be able to meet up with you guys.
Hey Steve, I plan on flying into KTH on April 6, out to Lukla on the 9-10. I was hoping to do the 3 passes trek, as well. I’m pretty wide open on my schedule and relaxed, so let me know what you think. I’ve hiked the Appalchian Trail, and done some trekking in South America, but this will be my first journey to Nepal. Cheers
Hey steve! I’m interested in joining if you were still looking for partners to trek and split costs with… I’m open to itenarary but really would like to do all three passes and the lake!
Hi Steve,
My friend and I are doing ebc+three passes from 18th April.

Hi Steve,
I’m also planning the three passes trek independently. I’ll be arriving in Kathmandu on April 15th. Let me know if your plan is still on so that we can coordinate.
