Three Passes Trek

My name is Joanna. I am 35 years old and I am from Poland. I speak English and German (although I haven’t used it for 10 years 😉). I am planning to do the Three Passes Trek in November independently, without a guide or a porter and I am looking for a partner or partners to team up.

I would like to do the trek counter clockwise for better acclimatization, starting with the standard way to EBC. I will have 20 days to complete it. I am arriving to Kathmandu on 03.11.2019 and have already booked a flight to Lukla on 06.11.2019 in the morning.

I am a traveler on sabbatical (working in a bank in normal life 😉).

I love to travel. I’ve been to 40 countries on 7 continents. I often go to Polish Tatras and I always have my trekking shoes with me when travelling. I did some treks in Jordan, New Zealand, USA, Peru, Argentina and Chile, including multiday trek in Torres del Paine in Patagonia. However except from trekking to the bottom of Colca Canyon in Peru I don’t have much experience in trekking in high elevation. I have been to Peru and Bolivia in the altitude above 4 000 though.

Nepal is my third destination on my 7-months adventure in Asia. I will be also in China and will visit Tibetan areas in Sichuan (just before Nepal) with altitude up to 4 000 what should give me better acclimatization for the trek in Himalaya.

Let me know if you are interested!

  1. Hi Joanna,
I am 28 years old and from Germany and take a break from my real life like you to explore the beautiful planet. I am currently in Nepal, but I would like to go to the abc trek and the mardi himal trek first.
Maybe we can connect and trek together the Three Passes in November 🙂
    Cheers, Sina

  2. Hi Sina, that would be great! The only problem is that I am not flexible. But if you are in Nepal in November we can definitely team up!

    • Hi Joanna, sorry for replying late. I’m back in Kathmandu and my plan is to start the trek from Phaplu to lukla at the 3. Nov. So we can team up when you want and meet us in lukla at the 6.
      Cheers Sina

  3. Hi,
I am a 31-year-old swede with roughly the same plans for the Three Passes Trek in November. I am also planning on hiking independently without a guide or porter, but it would be great to at least start out with a small group of likeminded hikers.

I haven’t booked my flights yet but was planning on arriving in Kathmandu on November 4:th.

I love travelling and hiking and have hiked a fair bit the last couple of years but not very much at high altitude apart from some shorter trails in South America three years ago.

This will be the start of a longer (hopefully very long) trip for me. I recently quit my job as a programmer to be able to travel but will still do some work/consulting from abroad (not from Nepal though) to extend my travels even more.

    • Sorry, for replying late. Let me know of your plan cristalized and you would like to team up 🙂

    • Hi Torkel, also planning to arrive in lukla by the 9th if you are interested.

  4. Namaste Joanna, I am setting out the day after you. I am not sure if I will be going anticlockwise. Maybe we will meet on the route. Wishing you well. Annie

    • Hi Anne, that would be great!

  5. Hi Joanna, im Portuguese, 34 and flight attendant with 25 days to complete the task. .
im also planning the three passes solo, also following the anticlockwise aclimatization plan. I will only arrive in lukla by the 9th, so hopefully we will meet somewhere along the route. I wish all the best.

    • That would be nice. See you on the route!

  6. Hi Joanna or rather cześć Asiu,

Similar story here – 35 and Polish, in Love with our stunning Tatra mountains. I’m planning to do the same trek (haven’t decided on clockwise or anticlockwise yet). Would love the company but I’m arriving in Kathmandu on the 4th November and booked flight to Lukla on the 7th. Hopefully we will meet en route!

    • Anyway, we can try to team up for high passes if we will be only one day apart 🙂

  7. Hi Joanna! I have just arrived in Kathmandu yesterday and I am planning to do the same route, three passes counter clockwise with a side trip to EBC. I have not booked my flight but planning to leave for Lukla on the 2nd or 3rd. I have no set itinerary but I hope to complete the trek and be back in Kathmandu before the 24th. Perhaps we can link up and do the passes together. Lmk 🙂

    • Hi Jenelyn, we start tomorrow. Let me know when you arrive.

  8. Hey Joanna! I am also planning to do the Three Passes Trek but I will be starting on 6th November from Phaplu. I am planning to reaach Namche Bazaar on the 9th. If you are still there in Namche on the 9th, perhaps we can team up and finish the rest of journey or some part of it. You can look at my tentative itinerary in my profile. Let me know 🙂

  9. Hi Saroj, we are starting tomorrow. But see you on the trail! Good luck.
