Tamang Heritage Langtang Gosainkunda Trek In Nepal
The Tamang Heritage trek is one of the newest in Nepal. It was created with the local villagers to improve trails and showcase the local Tamang people, a people renowned for their hospitality and a culture rich with many local festivals. It is a wonderful start to explore the region on relatively easy-going trails through pristine mountain scenery.
Cross over into the Langtang valley and trek through forests of pine, bamboo, and rhododendron, keeping an eye open for rare wildlife such as the red panda and multiple species of colourful birds. After the vegetation gives way to alpine meadows, in the spring, you’ll be treated to the best wildflower display Nepal has to offer and year-round, to up-close, breathtaking mountain views.
Then it’s onto the enchanting, sacred lakes of the Gosainkund, which are framed with a 150km panorama of Himalayan mountain peaks. The lakes are holy to both Hindus and Buddhists alike and many Hindus make the pilgrimage to bathe in the lakes during the August full moon festival of Janai Purnima.
The Tamang Heritage-Langtang-Gosainkund trek will give you the opportunity for many outstanding views, including those of Langtang Lirung (7227m), Shisha Pangma (8046m) in Tibet, and Ganesh Himal in the northwest. With a maximum altitude of 4,200m, this trek avoids some of the higher passes of the region, making it accessible for most trekkers.
