Lower and Upper Mustang (19 days)

I’m Marija, from Malta.

I am planning to go trekking in the lower and Upper Mustang this October (2017),doing a 19 day trek (see itinerary below). I would like to start the trek some time between the 6 – 9 of October.

I’m looking for up to four others who want to do this walk to go together. Alternatively people can join for a bit of the trek: Annapurna / lower Mustang is day 1 to day 6 and Upper Mustang starting on day 7. It is mandatory for upper Mustang to be at least two people in the party to get permits to enter this region. I have confirmed a guide and trekking company.

I’ve never been to Nepal before but I’ve done lots of hiking around Snowdonia National Park in north wales, UK. I’m 34 and I like being outdoors.

  1. Hello Marija,
Would be interested in trekking to both lower and upper Mustang. Can you send me details of cost/ tour company, is it all inclusive or is the cost only for guide/ permits?. Am aware of the mandatory daily fee for Upper Mustang. Have been to Nepal x5 before. Have not booked flights so nothing confirmed yet.

  2. I would suggest you move Poon Hill bonanza to the end of your trek if you will have time for that. You will basically walk stairs for two days at the start of your trip. Even going down ruined my knees. Not to mention that Poon Hill it is not worth the trouble.

  3. hi there – I might be interested in joining you guys for the Upper Mustang section!

the dates are pretty good for me. i am likely to fly into Nepal on 6 Oct, as thats when i can get there from Europe. So by the time time I either trail ready or flying to Jomson , it is October 9, by my reckoning. (might even by the 10th)

if you left on the 9th i could join you – or if you left on the 6th, i could fly into Jomson & meet you at Kag Beni – just at the gates of Upper Mustang. that would probably be on October 13.

I spent 8 months in the village of Marpha as an english teacher 25 years ago – it was an amazing place ! but i have not been back for a long time. it does mean i am certainly happy to spend a few days between Jomson , & Kag Beni waiting & walking around – it is a stunning area.

I have never been to Upper Mustang.

if there are any firmer plans i would be interested…

    best regards

    • i should explain – i was there when i was 18, which makes me 43 !
