Mardi Himal Trek

Hey there !

I am traveling to Nepal from September 17th to October 1st, and would like to take the time to visit both Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bhaktapur…. and as well do a short 6 to 7 days trek departing from Pokhara.
I was thinking about the Poon Hill Trek, and now might change my mind to the Mardi Himal Trek which is apparently amazing and less touristy.
I would be in to take a guide, or to do it independently.
I live in Switzerland and I am crazy about mountain sports and mountaineering, so I’m in good shape for some good days of walk (but can’t afford to do a longer trek because I have my flight back on Oct 1st in KTMD).
Let me know if you’ll be around and have the same kind of plan !

Cheers,

Camille

  1. Hi Camille! My name is Carolina and I´m from Argentina, but I have been traveling through South East Asia since february. I´m flying to Kathmandu on the 15th of september and planning to stay in Nepal for 15 days. My boyfriend is going 15 days earlier because he is going to do the Annapurna Circuit.
I was planning a 4-5 days trek to Poon Hill, as I´m not a real trekking lover nor even a sporty girl. But a couple of months ago, in Myanmar, we did a 3 days trek of 65k in total and I really enjoyed (and suffered it for moments but at the end it was really worth it, as you can see in my picture).
I was thinking on arriving on the 19th to Pokhara to start the trek on the 20th. And if my boyfriend still has energy, the idea was to get reunited on Ghorepani – but that is not totally for sure. I also met a spanish girl who reccomended me a couple of guides but I don´t think is necessary if you are with someone. I will ask them for prices just in case.-
I was thinking on doing something like this:
1st day go to Nayapul by bus, walk 3 hs and get to Tikhedhunga (or, option 2 is to walk a little bit farder to Ulleri and skip some steps for the day after).
2nd day get to Ghorepani (some people go to Poon Hill on that same day to see the sunset but is not necessary, I prefer sunrise aha).
3rd day from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, and then back to Ghorepani to get to Gandruk.
4th day from Gandruk to Deurali. Option 2 is to go to Kimche and from there take a bus directly to Pokhara (apparently the way to Pokhara is next to the road so it is full of trucks and bla bla)
5th day from Deurali to Pokhara (only if we don´t take the bus that I just said)
Please let me know with total freedom if this sounds good to you and if you would like to do it with me. As I said, I´m not an experienced girl about trekkings but I love nature and I will be a funny partner!

    kind regards!

    • hi Caroline !!
Iam into poon hill around 20 september.i will be trekking independently though,i will be reaching pokhara around 19 september
please reply at my email so we can have great time together

      regards!

  2. Hi Camille, we plan to start the Poon Hill Trek on September 23rd. We would like to be back in Pokhara on September 29th. Is that too late for you?

By checking your profile pic you seem to be in a better shape than we are 😀 But as we did quite well at a 4 day trek at Machu Picchu in Peru we should be fine with this one, too.

“we” means me (Alex) with boyfriend (Timo) from Germany.

    • Hi guys!!
I’m starting Poon Hill trek on 20 or 21 of September, please let me know if you change your mind and start your trek before!

  3. http://www.trekkingpartners.com/blog/top-12-best-treks-nepal/ No. 6 also sounded quite qood to me. But I have to take some time to compare it before I decide to favor this to Poon Hill.
