Everest Base Camp Trek

I’m heading overland from India into Nepal, then plan on trekking EBC from Lukla (maybe from Kathmandu?).

  1. I wanna hike into everst as well. Not fly into Lukla. How many days you able to spend on the trek?

    • hey, yeah pretty flexible on length of travel, don’t want to rush, but don’t want to hike longer than necessary. I think 8-10 days is ideal from what I’ve read (from Lukla)

  2. May plan a Everest Base Camp trip in early May. Dates are not final yet, but looking for 5 May-15 May. Will fly to Lukla to save time and hike without porters. I probably won’t need guide as well, because I can speak Hindi. Most Nepalese understand and speak some Hindi. The trek is popular during that time of year and trail should be easy to navigate. I did a part of Annapoorna Circuit in Aug-2013 without guide and porters.

    • Hi, those dates sound about right with me – i’m still tentative on May 1, need to actually confirm my arrival into Kathmandu, then will be able to fix my dates for trekking. Think i may be able to do this towards end of March.

I like the idea of having a porter, from what i’ve read they carry for two ppl – so that would save some money, though my pack is 10kg now, nd while trekking i will reduce it probably down to 5kg + water etc.

  3. hey sean!
the dates look convenient to me
lets plan the exact itenary soon

    • hey mate, cool i will confirm my dates in the next few weeks. I am still in Sydney! I will arrive in India on Monday and then will travel around there for two months, so will confirm my arrival into Kathmandu as soon as i can.

will you be travelling from outside of nepal?

  4. Hi,
I have already got my flights for arrival in Kathmandu on 30 April and depart on 17 May. My plan is to trek to EBC form Lukla for around 14 days and if possible descend from Gokyo Lakes and fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu. I am looking to share a guide with other trekking partners and book the accomodation along the trek, as it goes (so not reserving in advance). I have already contacted some guides and got an offer that would include: guide that can also carry bags, with his insurance, accomodation flights to/from Lukla with around 30-35 US$ per day. To add: flight to/from Lukla (ca. 330US$ per person)+ permits, fees & TIMS (40US$ pp).

    • Hi Eduard,

So the US$30/day would be shared amongst the trekkers?

  5. Hi Sean,
Yes, that’s right. And I also got another offer for 40 USD per/day, also to be shared between trekkers.

  6. Hi! I want to leave on May 1st as well. Or April 30th. I, however, have a flight to catch from Kathmandu on May 12th so I really cannot go over 10 days.

  7. Sorry guys. I have a changed plan now. I may not be able to take a trip to Nepal until July. I’m sure you all will have a good time in Nepal. Thanks for your interest though. I will take away the post in few days.
