Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek

Update: There were some changes in my plans and will start this trek in the first week of November walking in from Jiri and out to Salleri.

Hello everyone. I am planning to do an independent trek in the everest region. I don’t have tickets yet so the start date is still flexible, but definitely in the second half of September. I plan to see the base camp, gokyo lakes and go over the three passes.

I am looking for a partner or two for this trek. I prefer those who have more than enough time in Nepal since I’d also like to do some side treks to be able to see as much of the region. I am not athletic so the pace would be average at most. And even if I could, I don’t want to go fast because I’d like to spend time to appreciate the beauty of the landscape.

I don’t have a huge budget for this trip so I’d like to do it independently, no guide or porter just like what I did in the AC in 2014. I am also open to walking from Jiri. I don’t have a fixed itinerary for the trek and if this seems very ambitious, I could tone it down a bit, depending on who my partner/s would be.

  1. Dear Em, being in Nepal from 17/09 to 11/11/2016 I`ve lots of time to discover the Solo-Khumbu slowly and intensively. It`s my third trip to Nepal and I`m really fascinated. In 2012 I`ve been walking the Annapurna Circuit and two years ago I was hiking from Jiri to Kala Pattar/EBC and back to Jiri. Now I want to discover the Three Passes Trail. Of course it`s more fun (and more safe) in a small independent group than going alone. Do you want to get in touch with me? Best wishes, Lars

  2. Hi,

My name is Manon (I am 25) and I will be in Nepal from August. In august i will be with a friend but she will leave me then. I would like to walk to the base camp and the gokyo lakes. I have got all the time in the world because i will leave at the end of october. This will be my fourth time in Nepal. I am absolutely in love with the country: the nature and the people. I have walked annapurna bace camp and mardi himal before, i also did a short trek in ladakh, india. I also would want to walk at an easy pace and do not have a big budget. So your description definitely matches mine. Maybe we can get in touch. Kind regards, Manon

  3. Dear Manon, thanks for your reply. You have lots of trekking experience and your plans sound interesting! Are you staying in the Netherlands at the moment? I live in Düsseldorf, not far away from any Dutch town. We could meet at one of the next weekends in a cafe if you like. My idea is that a personal meeting is a much better basis for a common hiking decision than writing e-mails or watching pictures. What do you think about this suggestion?

  4. Hi Em,

As you mentioned that your dates of visiting Nepal is flexible.

Is it possible to make it during mid of November. I am planning to visit Nepal during that time and I am looking for one / two partners.

I am going with a highly experienced mountaineer guide and it will be a packaged trip.

If you are interested please do let me know.

    Thanks – Susmita

  5. Hi Em,
I’ll be in Everest Region (EBC-Kalapatthar) Oct 25-Nov 13.. Sabay na lang tayo! Haha! That is, kung hindi ka pa nakapagbook ng tickets mo 🙂

    Rovi 🙂

  6. Hi Em,

This is the exact route & dates I was looking at! I was going to hire a guide because I planned on doing it alone, but more than happy to do it unguided with you.

I haven’t booked anything either and am flexible with dates in Nov/Dec.

I have some experience with multi-day hikes in Australia and USA, but this will be my first time to Nepal.

Please get in touch – Cathy 🙂

    • Hi Cathy and Em,
I would be in nepal in 31st october and planning to walk from jiri and do the three passes trek ending with a flight from lukla back to KTM. I am going to do it independently but would welcome some companions. Do tell me if any of you are interested, we may plan together on the treks.

  7. Hi Em and other people that responded on her message!

I’m planning to visit Nepal for the first time this fall (arriving in last week of october) and can’t wait to go trekking! I’m still trying to decide which trek suits me best, so if any of you has some great plans and is still open for an enthusiastic hiking companion, let me know:)

    Greetings from Holland! Inge

  8. Hey Em,

I’ll be looking to do either Everest or Annapurna region this November. So far I have no plans and no tickets so I’m open to everything (including other regions). I have been to Nepal once before and cannot wait to return. I am also looking to do this independently but am also open to using a guide. The guides I met on my last trip were so kind and knowledgeable- they add an entirely different perspective for the trip.

Anyways, let me know if you’re interested in chatting more!

  9. Hey Em,

I’m also going up to EBC and Gokyo lakes in November.

Add me on FB: Carl-Philippe Rousse

  10. Hi girls! If your plan is still going on I would be very interest in! I’m in Kathmandu at the moment so feel free to contact me !

    • Hi Andrea,

I’m looking at doing something similar to you. I sent you a message, let me know what you think!
