Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek

Hi everyone, my name is Calvin and I met some great people on here 2 years ago that I hiked the Annapurna Circuit with so I’m back! Incredibly excited to be going back to Nepal!

This time I am looking to take on the EBC (Gokyo Lakes variant) beginning in Salleri or Jiri instead of Lukla. Looking to save the flight money (though I do still plan to take it back at the end) and start in a more rural place. This will add several days to the beginning of the trek (great for adjustment). I am leaning toward starting in Salleri (shorter than starting in Jiri) which means a 10-12 hour bus/jeep at a cost of 1000-2000 NPR (haven’t been able to find specifics). Salleri to Namche is about 4-5 days (bypassing Lukla).

I am flexible on dates but am flying in and out of Kathmandu April 8th (late) / May 8th (early). A few days on each end in Kathmandu to gear up/down and prepare and then yeah I’d like to spend at least 3 weeks on the trail. I am relatively out of shape but look forward to getting back in the game!

Having broken from our planned itinerary on day 2 last time I did this (haha), I’m not too concerned with a specific itinerary. Having upwards of 20 days (instead of the normal 16-19) will allow us the flexibility to slow down/rest when necessary. I very much plan on doing most/all of the optionals (Gokyo Ri, Kala Patthar, etc)! Every day is of course different but in general I would be up at 7, hiking at 8, hour for lunch at 11-12, and then settle down somewhere in the afternoon (3-5).

Not looking for a large group or anything, just a few upbeat positive trekkers that want to undertake this challenge together! I will be going without a guide or porter as a large part of the fun for me is carrying our own supplies, traveling by map, planning our own way, negotiating our own stays, etc.

I look forward to hearing from you!
