EBC and Island Peak

Hey!
Thinking about trekking to Everest base camp and climb the Island Peak afterwards.
I did the Annapurna Circuit and Tilicho Lake last year and loved it. I would now like to try something a little more challenging, and the accounts I´ve read from doing Island Peak makes it seem absolutely achievable, even with very limited climbing experience.
This is very early in the planning, but my tentative plan is to trek without a guide or porter up to EBC, and agree to meet a guide there for the Island Peak.
As I said, it´s early in the process, and I´m open for suggestions.
I will have to do this in January because of my studies.

Write to me if this sounds interesting!

  1. Hi Eirik,
Just came across your post. When are you planning on arriving/leaving KTM? Like you I am also on planning on going to EBC without a guide and attempt the island peaks and if possible mera peaks if I have time. Please let me know what you think? Regards Dipesh

  2. Hey man.
I´m planning to arrive KTM around the 3th. or 4th of January next year. I have approximiately one month to travel in, so I´ll return in the end of the month. How about you?

  3. Hi Eirik,

Unfortunately I don’t have a month to spend in Nepal. I can only do 3weeks. Have you booked your flights? As I haven’t checked the price of fares from London for the 3rd and 4th. Is the any flexibility your days? Also are you planning on flying into Lukla?

    Sorry for all the questions…

  4. Questions are no problem!

Based on the itineraries I´ve seen from different travel agencies, three weeks seem sufficient for the Island Peak. The challenge seems to be getting a guide from for example Chhukung to the top of Island Peak. It would also be cheaper if we found a couple of other trekkers to split the payment for the guide with.
Between 3-6 of January are all days that can work for me (flying from Norway to KTM will take between 22-30 hours in total).

  5. Hi, I guess that there will not be that many people hiking in Nepal in January as it gets colder. I have emailed a guide asking for a price, so fingers crossed that it is good. Not sure how much the flight is from Norway to KTM but British Airways have a flight to Delhi and jet airways from Delhi to KTM for around £560.

  6. Hi Eirek, I will also be arriving in KTM around 4-5 Jan and I am also looking to do the trek, Will be there the whole month. We can do it together,

  7. I also can do it only in Jan as work starts by Feb, You can contact me at kaustubh1001@gmail.com. Dipesh if you get a quote please forward it my way, and if we can build a group of 3-4 people we can significantly cut costs too.

  8. Hey, this is pretty much exactly what I want to be doing and at the same time. I will be in Nepal from the end of November doing volunteer work until just after Christmas / before New Years. I also have very limited climbing experience however I believe I am fit enough to not be a drag. I will have until late Janurary / early February as my return flight is on the 4th of Feb.

If you are still keen on this and feel like putting up with me, email me on iduivest@gmail.com

  10. Hi all,

I’m afraid that I cannot do December as my girlfriend wishes to go to EBC in March and I don’t have enough leave to go in December as well. I wish you a very safe trip and please let me know how it went

    Kind regards

  12. Hi,

I’m planning to start EBC with Gokyo via Cho la pass end Dec 29th or later depending on whether I can get flight tix to Lukla in KTM (early Jan might also be possible). The option of hiking in/out via Jiri (to save some bucks) might also be feasible.

Would like to do this independently but is open to hiring guides for higher altitudes.

We might be able to do parts of the trek together. Contact me if u r interested.

    Cheers.
