Are you interested in climbing Mt Cho Oyu in Nepal?

I’m interested in forming a group to climb Mt Cho Oyu, hopefully around September 2014.

Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world, coming in at 8,201 meters. Of the fourteen mountains over 8000 meters it is considered one of the “easier” ones to climb. “Easier”, because the route is of reasonable difficulty, with few technical sections. The route has limited objective dangers as compared to other 8,000 meter peaks. There is limited risk from rock and icefall, and avalanche conditions tend to be rare and when they occur, predictable. That being said, because of the high altitude and the physical endurance required it is a potentially dangerous undertaking. High altitude (+6000 meter) climbing experience is required. Basic use of ropes, crampons and ice axe are mandatory. Potential teammates will need to feel confident and comfortable ascending or descending on fixed ropes along a steep technical terrain.

What I can tell from reading about Cho Oyu is that there is one section between 25 and 50 meters that requires serious climbing skills. Otherwise it is an endurance and altitude challenge. Experienced mountain Sherpa’s and guides will be used throughout the climb.

Lastly, it is also a very expensive undertaking. Internet searches come up with prices from $13,000 to $22,000.

Please contact me if interested.
