Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Hi everyone, I am a 19 year old gap year student from London, UK, and I am going to volunteer at an orphanage in Sri Lanka for 4 weeks 25th October – 19th November. After my placement, I want to fly to Kathmandu to spend some time trekking in the Himalayas, as that has always been a dream and I know that November is a great time, not too busy but still safe. I have done some trekking before, however not at such a high altitude, and I am unsure whether to hire a guide, perhaps if anyone wants to tag along or join it would be more suitable. I dont think I will hire a porter, as I want to be as self-sufficient as possible, and I would plan to rent some of my kit in Kathmandu or Pokhara before starting the trek. If anyone is interested or would like to tag along, I would love to touch base! The main reasons I didnt want to join a big agency trek is that I want to be able to move at my own pace and also I dont want to spend a fortune on luxury food and accomodation, I want to live like the locals and get a real experience.

I am thinking that the trek will take around 10-12 days, with suitable acclimatisation (I have done some research but am still not very experienced, so this is where a local guide might be useful…), and I will most likley travel to Pokhara from Kathmandu by public or tourist bus, as flying is quite expensive. If you are at all interested you can leave a comment or email me at e.surminski@gmail.com

Update:
Together with a local guide I’ve created an itinerary, and the trek will now include Poon Hill and last from 22 Nov to 3 Dec (hiking days)
