Situated along the western foothills of the Himalayas, the Annapurna massif contains some of the highest mountains in the world. The gorge formed by the kali gadkari separates Annapurna from Mount Dhaulagiri.Annapurna is a Sanskrit word which means “goddess of the harvests”. The massif has sacred connotations to Hindus living in Nepal and the adjoining areas.

The Annapurna base camp trek offers tourists the opportunity to experience both high mountains and low land villages. Moreover, the area is inhabited by people belonging to the various ethnic groups. The region is home to people belonging to the Gurung, Magar, and Thakali groups. Tourists can get a sneak into their life and unique culture.

Also known as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, it is one of the most frequented treks in Nepal. The trek offers majestic views of the snow capped mountains and beautiful green fields. The path to the Annapurna base camp is lined with beautiful rhododendron forests. As the trek is not very strenuous, anyone who wishes to experience the beautiful Annapurna massif can go on the trek. The first stop is Nayapool, a town located at an hour distance from Pokhara. From Nayapool, trekkers march ahead to Ghorepani.

At Ghorepani views of the rising sun awaits tourists. The sun rising from the 7000m high mountains Next day begins with trekking to Tadapani. Over the course of the journey trekkers will cover Chhomrong, Dovan, Deurali, Annapurna Base Camp and Jhinu Danda. The best time to go on the trek is Sept – Nov and Mar – May. During summers, the whole trek gets covered with rhododendron flowers. Going on the trek during the monsoons i.e. the period between Junes to August is not advisable.
