When I started Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails in 1996, I was a young, ambitious mountain guide who was fortunate enough to overcome the tremendously challenging life as a porter carrying heavy loads on the high trails of the Solukhumbu region near Mt Everest.
Travelers who came to Nepal to enjoy its beautiful nature provided me the opportunity to escape poverty and build a better life through hard work. Starting out as a porter I worked my way up to kitchen boy, climbing Sherpa, guide, and group leader. My horizon expanded dramatically, from my home village of Kharikola to Kathmandu and beyond; and I was eventually able to travel to many foreign countries including the United States, England, Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Tibet, Thailand, Singapore, and New Zealand.
When I started Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails, I had a vision for an adventure travel company that not only provides travelers with the best possible travel experience but also provides a platform for the people of Nepal to build a better life.
Now, 18 years later, I am very proud that both goals are on track. In addition to organizing hundreds of successful expeditions, treks & tours through Nepal I was able to build 2 schools, a hospital, and a Buddhist monastery in Kharikola, my home village. Besides this, I have been able to organize a yearly Medical Camp Project that offers free health checkups to villagers as well as a Drinking Water Project to supply clean and safe drinking water to local people. These charity projects are immensely satisfying, also to my friends from abroad who partnered with me to raise the funds to make this happen. The projects make a tremendous difference for the local population and are setting an example for the rest of Nepal.
But we are just getting started and looking forward to the years ahead. I am planning to further build and grow my trekking business, drawing on 18 years of experience as a company, and to sustain and expand the various charity projects in order to continue building a bridge between the outside world and the people of Nepal.
Whether you want to join me on a day tour through Kathmandu or Pokhara, a classic trek to Everest Base camp or around Annapurna, venture out into remote areas such as Dhaulagiri, Manaslu or Arun Valley, Dolpo, Mustang, Tsum Valley, Ganesh Himal, Kanchenjunga, Tibet, Bhutan, or climb one of the many high peaks in the Himalayas, I hope you consider Nepal Myths as your partner to make your dreams come through.
