Hey guys, I’m currently trying to figure out which trek I should do at the end of October in Nepal. For those of you who have already been there, which of these two (ABC-ACT) has more to offer in terms of panoramas? Which one is a must pretending I’ll never step a foot in Nepal again in my life??

Hi Ariana
Welcome to Nepal! It is good time to do ABC or ACT. Both treks are amazing because of high mountainous views and local culture. If you have enough time, you could do both. Nowadays you can get to Chame by bus then trek to Muktinath via Thorong La Pass (5416m). Total 6 days walking including 1 rest day in Manang for acclimatisation. From Muktinath again you could get a jeep to Tatopani, then walk for 1 day to reach Ghorepani Poon Hill which is a very famous view point of the Annapurna Ranges, Mt Fishtail and Dhaulagiri. After that, you could trek for 1 week to get to ABC. Both treks combined take about 17 days in total.

Kind regards,
Rajan

Dear Ariana
welcome and greeting from Nepal.its nice to hear that you are coming to Nepal. i am a trekking guide complete my self and according to your view you might want to do base camp ABC.its wonderful trekking trail where there is cultural diversity and you will reach in heart of mountain.there is full of enjoyment you can get there.if you want more info please drop me mail haribasnet350@gmail.com
There is no doubt about it – the Circuit!! I have done both twice, sometimes against my will !!
In a nutshell:
ABC is going through the hills aka river banks, meaning that you always go up and down. There are patches were you literally go up and down like thousand staircases. Just going down from Chomrong and then up will ruin you:) Also most of the trek is inside the forest, and in some places with a water running through the path making it muddy and slippery, not that it lasts too long, but still. Basically you enjoy it for the last two days when you are past forest. And also you have to go back on the same route, at least till Chomrong.
Circuit on the other hand has a lot of changing scenery from the lower jungle like forests up to the maple trees and fir and pines forests, apple gardens, pastures and then mountain tops with scarce vegetation. And you gain altitude more thoroughly and steady compared to ABC. You just walk on some days. Not a knee killer. I remember going down/hopping from Ghorepani to Naya Pul in one day, i could not walk for a week probably)
One too many beautiful views and side treks, and you have to go always forward. After the pass you get to another place (Mustang region) which is quite unique in its own right. Different cultures and villages on the way. People imho are nicer then gurungs on ABC, less greedy.
The only downside can be a Thorung La pass. Amazing pass, but you have to cross it and it can stop you.
If you have to choose: go on the Circuit, next time you go to Nepal you will try ABC just to learn you were right the first time.
And yes October is perfect time for both, but better start in the middle of the month otherwise there is a chance to catch some raining in the lower parts.
Also ABC is more prone to raining and clouds, in November ABC gets cloudy like on schedule after lunch.

We would like to recommend you Annapurna circuit because it is more better than ABC. However, ABC is also very popular trekking route.
I did the circuit in March this year and I can’t recommend it enough. The range of terrain you see is amazing and because you’re there for a fairly long time you can get a proper feel for the place. If possible, do the Tillicho Lake side-trek too. In total it took us 18 days and that’s walking the whole lot from Besisahar to Nayapul taking in Poon hill on the way. It’s possible to join the ABC trek after Poon hill which will add another 5 days or so to the total.
Can’t recommend it enough
